TripAdvisor reveals best-rated burger joints in time for National Burger Day

LONDON, UK, 14th August 2018 – It’s National Burger Day on 23rd August so what better excuse (as if you ever need an excuse!) to celebrate by chowing down on a deliciously juicy patty and bun.


Here, TripAdvisor presents the top 10 restaurants in the UK to satisfy that humble hamburger craving, according to the reviews and opinions of TripAdvisor travellers*. The UK’s number 1 is revealed as The Meat Shack in Birmingham, which serves up variations of the meat and bun combo including Hell Shack, Buffalo Blue and Dutch Piggy.

  1. The Meat Shack, Birmingham

Located opposite the Birmingham Hippodrome, The Meat Shack promises 5oz well-aged, grass-fed beef burgers in all sorts of flavour combinations, including the ‘Buffalo Blue’; an aged beef patty, blue cheese, American cheese, candy bacon crumb, red onions, blue cheese dressing and Franky buffalo sauce.

  1. Burgsy, Whitby

A small and cosy restaurant offering a tasty alternative to Whitby’s fish and chips – Burgsy offers fresh handmade burgers, using local ingredients, all served in a brioche bun with mango, salad and fries. Diners will find at least 12 varieties to choose from including ‘Billy the Kid’, a trio of goat’s cheese, rocket and homemade balsamic reduction, along with the all-important beef patty.

I carried on with life, eating good burgers at various establishments and then the time came to revisit Burgsy’s. And you know what? Brighton Burger is located in the centre of Brighton serving up giant burgers that aren’t for the faint hearted, including ‘Mr Crunch’ – a croque-monsieur style beef burger with cheese, bacon, and BBQ sauce in an inverted cheesy bun. With the tagline, ‘Life Changing Burgers’ emblazoned across the front of the restaurant, these guys are definitely confident in what they do. And the reviews speak for themselves.


A TripAdvisor reviewer said, “No seriously, this is the BEST burger I’ve ever eaten. Fresh ingredients, freshly cooked, prompt service by friendly, efficient staff. What more could you want? They even cooked a plain burger for my 11 month old daughter (who also loved it).”

After getting fed up with their 9-5 jobs; Adam, Daniel and Tom set up Brgr & Beer with the vision of offering top-notch burgers and quality craft beers to the people of Croydon and beyond. All burgers here are served with a side of fries and not just limited to the classic beef burger, the menu features chicken and veggie burgers too. The ‘bacon chilli cheese’ consists of chilli cheese, smoked streaky bacon, homemade jalapeno relish, homemade burger sauce, beer braised onions, lettuce, tomato and pickle.


A TripAdvisor reviewer said, “This quirky little place had the best burgers! I went for the Boozer with rosemary fries and didn't regret it, it was lush!! Good prices, not too expensive. They have a good selection of beers to choose from.”

Diners at MeatBusters Burger Bar will spot a television and film theme throughout peppered throughout its menu with ‘The Italian Job’, ‘Danny Dorito’, ‘12 Monkeys’ and ‘Gotham’ to name a few. ‘The Italian Job’ includes a classic beef patty, topped with sautéed mushrooms, mozzarella, and pesto on a bed of field greens and sundried tomatoes.

The Lucky Luke burger is a must try, a whopping beef patty topped with goats cheese and caramelised onion confit…wow. My friend went for their vegan burger, the avengers, which she was seriously impressed with!”

Located in the bustling North Laine food district of Brighton, this small burger joint is run by two friends.  Unusually, their buns are made from a Challah bread recipe, a Jewish bread usually plaited and eaten on special occasions. Burger Brothers burger options include the Bennetton (stilton, mushroom and wasabi mayo) and Our Favourite (goats’ cheese, roast peppers and secret sauce).


A TripAdvisor reviewer said, “This place definitely lives up to its reputation. I had the plain beef burger with a gluten free bun and without a doubt was the most delicious burger I have ever eaten. The pattie was so full of flavour and the bun was great.”

Meat59 serves up hand pressed burgers using locally sourced beef and pork from Devon. Eats on the menu include the ‘That’s my burger nacho burger’,a 6oz patty with jalapeno, guacamole, chipotle mayo, Monteray Jack and tortilla chips and the ‘Sorted Satay’ which is made up of chicken breast, satay sauce, mayo, spicy slaw, wild rocket and beef tomato.


A TripAdvisor reviewer said, “Still by far the best burger I’ve eaten! Lush little place with a buzzing atmosphere, the most lovely and smiley staff and the chefs are burger wizards!! Wouldn’t go anywhere else. They always get it right!”

Offering a gourmet burger dining experience in St Albans, The Meating Room’s burgers are 100% traceable British beef and are hand pressed every day. Flavours on the menu include the ‘King Harry’, a double patty with cranberry jam relish, turkey bacon, gem lettuce, beef tomato, red onion and brie.


A TripAdvisor reviewer said, “There’s not a lot you can say about this place that hasn’t been said before. Small, compact and really good. The burgers are great, tasty and cooked as you want them. The courgette fries are awesome and the shakes are thick and creamy.”

The burgers here are made from beef, lamb and chicken sourced from local Dorset farms. The Dorset Burger Company’s burgers include The American (burger topped with Monterey Jack cheese, bacon, gherkin, red onion & American style mustard) and The Brie and Bacon (beef burger topped with local brie, Denhay bacon and cranberry sauce).

LBK Burger Bar is a family-run restaurant situated in the heart of the picturesque 'Pearl of Dorset', Lyme Regis.
