LONDON, UK, 24 April, 2018 – British holidaymakers could be able to save up to 49% on hotels in popular destinations this summer depending on when they book, predicts a report released today by the travel planning and booking site, TripAdvisor.
The ‘Best Time to Book’ summer report predicts the least expensive times to book a hotel stay during the peak summer travel period in popular destinations around the globe, based on TripAdvisor hotel pricing data. It shows that, for most popular destinations, UK holidaymakers are most likely to get the cheapest rates by booking several months in advance of their travel – rather than wait until the last minute.
Of the fifteen popular destinations for Brits, the report predicts that only New York and Tokyo are likely to offer the best rates less than a month before the 2018 summer travel period begins.
The report analysed price trends from the last two summer seasons (2016 and 2017) at 15 popular summer destinations, identifying the time periods prior to travel when hotel rates were at their lowest, as well as the overall price average for each destination. From this analysis, TripAdvisor was able to identify a ‘best to time book’ time period when hotel prices are likely to be consistently less than the destination average for travel this summer.
“Getting the best hotel deal for your summer holidays is not just about finding the best dates to travel, it’s also about being smart about when you book your hotel for the dates you’ve selected. Holidaygoers who time it right can save a huge amount compared to the average prices others will pay. For most destinations, you can feel confident you are getting the best deal if you book a few months ahead of your trip, but it can vary depending on the destination, so it’s worth being savvy in your research,” commented TripAdvisor spokesperson, Hayley Coleman.
Of the 15 major destinations included in the research, the report predicts that holidaymakers to Dubai stand to gain the most from booking at the right time – with a potential saving of 49% if booking within three months of the trip. New York City and Tokyo follow, at 40% and 30% respectively when booking within one month of the trip for both destinations. Sydney comes next at 25% when booking within five weeks. Cancun requires the most advanced booking for the best savings at 5-8 months ahead of a trip, with a potential saving of 11% compared to the average price.
Below is the breakdown of the best time to book as well as potential savings when booking hotels in these destinations for summer 2018 compared to the peak rates during the same period.
