Cotswolds B&B Named Best in Europe in 16th Annual TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards
UK also home to Europe’s best value for money hotel and #1 small hotel

LONDON, UK – 23rd January 2018 – A Cotswolds B&B, Devon hotel and three Llandudno hotels are celebrating being been awarded some of the hospitality industry’s most esteemed titles in this year’s 2018 Travellers’ Choice® awards for hotels, announced today by TripAdvisor, the site that helps you find the latest reviews and lowest prices.

The Old School Bed & Breakfast in the tiny village of Little Compton in the Cotswolds’ Moreton-in-Marsh this year takes the title of Europe’s best B&B and fourth best in the world.

In the Small hotels category, the Tavistock House Hotel in Tavistock, Devon, is revealed as Europe’s top small hotel and second in the world. While Llandudno’s Lawton Court Hotel celebrates being named Europe’s number one Value for Money hotel and third in the world.

In their 16th year, the highly-anticipated Travellers’ Choice® awards for hotels highlight the world’s most outstanding properties in the categories of Top Hotels Overall, Luxury, Bargain, Small, Best Service, B&Bs and Inns, Romance, Family and All-Inclusive. In addition, a new “Value for Money” hotel award category was created this year. To qualify for this award, a property must have at least four stars and four bubbles on TripAdvisor, and offer annual nightly average rates that are at least 20 percent below the city average and cost less than £215 per night based on hotel prices available on TripAdvisor. The 2018 Travellers’ Choice® award winners were determined based on the millions of reviews and opinions collected in a single year from TripAdvisor travellers worldwide.

“These awards are revered and eagerly awaited each year by the hospitality industry owing to the fact that unlike other hospitality awards, these are based on feedback from actual guests over the past year. For travellers, they serve as annual bucket list inspiration and with winning hotels often fully booked shortly after our announcement, travellers who want to get in on the action will need to book quickly if they want to see for themselves why these properties are so highly rated,” commented Hayley Coleman, TripAdvisor spokesperson.

Brits outdo rest of Europe in best of B&Bs

The results of this year’s awards prove that it’s the UK that still does the B&B best, as the UK claims not just the number one in Europe but second and third place as well. In fact the success goes beyond Europe as five of the top 10 B&Bs in the world are located in the UK.

The title of number one in Europe and the UK and fourth in the world goes to The Old School Bed & Breakfast in Moreton-in–Marsh, Gloucestershire. Bindon Bottom B&B in West Lulworth, Dorset – the recipient of world number one last year – is named second best in Europe and the UK and fifth in the world and 34 Argyle Street Guesthouse in St Andrews, Scotland comes in third place in Europe and the UK and sixth in the world. The 25 Boutique B&B in Torquay comes in fifth in Europe, fourth in the UK and ninth in the world, followed by Lincoln’s Creston Villa Guest House, which takes sixth in Europe, fifth in the UK and tenth in the world.

Wendy Veale, owner of The Old School Bed & Breakfast said, “I am so thrilled to be recognised in this year's awards, our third time and more than I could imagine for 2018! What a wonderful start to the New Year for my amazing team and me. I would like to thank all of our guests for reviewing us so kindly. As other B&B owners will know, it’s a jolly hard job, requiring stamina and a big smile and I do it with great pride, welcoming guests from all corners of the world ‘back to school’, in our lovely home in the Cotswolds. This accolade makes every little detail I am renowned for (I can hear the team exasperating!) and all those hours so worthwhile. Absolutely delighted, thank you!”

Head to Llandudno for value for money and top notch service

Llandudno this year firmly cements itself as a great location for the budget conscious traveller – whether that’s bagging a bargain or simply getting the most out of their hard earned cash – as Lawton Court Hotel is revealed as the number one hotel in Europe and the UK and third in the world for Value for Money. Just next door, Lauriston Court Hotel, Lawton Court’s older sister hotel, run by the Lawton-Jones family, scooped the prize for best bargain hotel in the UK and second in the world.

Stroll less than 500 feet down the road from Lauriston and Lawton Court and you’ll find The Elm Tree Hotel where according to this year’s awards, at just £85 per night, you’ll get the best service in the UK. The hotel is also named second for Best Service in Europe and fourth in the world.

Queen’s neighbour named UK’s #1 in Top Hotels category

For those looking for something extravagant, for the second year in a row, the title of UK’s Top Hotel goes to Hotel 41. Located opposite Buckingham Palace and boasting Savoir beds, a personal butler service and staff who outnumber guests two to one, the hotel also celebrates placing sixth in Europe and 14th in the world. Bookable on TripAdvisor for an average of £502 per night, travellers planning a visit will get the best deal in February, where the average rate on TripAdvisor is £390.

Sleek, contemporary Siem Reap hotel takes the world title

Elsewhere, Viroth’s Hotel in Siem Reap, Cambodia – where rooms are available on TripAdvisor for an average of £92 per night – takes the title of world’s top hotel for 2018 in this year’s awards.  Located in the centre of Siem Reap, in the vibrant Wat Bo area, the hotel boasts 50's-inspired contemporary design, complemented by large green areas and vertical gardens, 35 super stylish guestrooms, a 20-metre pool, spa, gym and open air poolside restaurant.

Travellers’ Choice awards take into account the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and opinions specific to each award category.  The hallmarks of Travellers’ Choice winners are remarkable service, quality and value.
