Where to go and when at home and abroad
According to TripAdvisor search data, the top international destinations are Seminyak, Bali, followed by Honolulu and New York City. In particular, Indonesia dominates the list this year, taking up four of the top ten spots. The good news for those planning a trip to Indonesian destinations this summer is that the average cost of a trip is less than $2,700, among the lowest across all other destinations on the top 10 list.
For those who are planning to take a break at home, the most popular destinations include the big cities of Sydney and Melbourne and east coast beaches such as; Surfer’s Paradise and Broadbeach. The most affordable destination is Brisbane with the average cost of one week totaling $2,120 including meals, flights and a bookable tour. For travellers who are planning on visiting Broadbeach on the Gold Coast this summer, the least expensive week is the week of 13th February, with savings of more than $419. Sydney tops the list with an average cost of $2,699 for a week-long stay including meals, flights and a bookable tour.
“As summer approaches, Aussie travellers are starting to make plans for their annual holidays either at home or overseas. The Summer Holiday Value Report helps travellers plan their trip and reduce overall costs by highlighting the least expensive time to go. Locally, beach destinations such as Surfers Paradise, Port Douglas and Hamilton Island are popular and affordable throughout the summer, with the report showing that February is the least expensive time to book. For those looking to head overseas to a cooler climate, New York City is the least expensive in the last week of January, saving travellers up to 20% in cost,” said Ms Joanne Kershaw, TripAdvisor spokesperson.
