TripAdvisor Serves Up Autumn Holiday Destinations Where Travellers Can Stretch Their Dollar the Furthest

TripMaximiser Report can help travellers make the most of city, beach or cultural getaways they are planning, with stays ranging from 37 to four nights

TripAdvisor, the planning and booking site which offers travellers millions of reviews combined with the ability to compare hotel prices before booking, has unveiled its inaugural TripMaximiser Report, designed to help travellers choose the holiday that suits them most based on their budget.

The report outlines the estimated number of nights travellers can afford, for two people, at 10 of the most popular destinations for travellers during the autumn travel period[1], showcasing how far a specific budget would take them depending on where they choose to go. It takes into account the average Australian traveller’s holiday spend of $1,700 per person on accommodation and flights[i].

At $1,700 per person, Australian travellers considering a city break for two people within Asia could afford a 37-day break in Kuala Lumpur, compared to 14 and 10 days in Singapore and Hong Kong respectively. The average cost of a flight to Kuala Lumpur comes in at $698 per person, while the average nightly hotel rate on TripAdvisor is $54. In comparison, while an average flight to Singapore is slightly cheaper at $604 per person, the average hotel rates are nearly three times more at $157 per night.

Beach holiday destinations in Phuket’s Patong and Bali’s Seminyak offer significantly more value as compared to Denarau Island and Honolulu, where the budget can stretch for an extended stay of 28 and 20 days as opposed to just nine and four days respectively. Similarly, travellers looking for an experience steeped in cultural heritage can explore the historic Ho Chi Minh City and nearby towns over 27 days, as compared to just six nights in Kyoto.
