TripAdvisor®, the travel site for reviews and bookings, announced its “Best Time to Book” summer report, revealing the least expensive times to book hotels this summer in popular destinations across the globe, based on TripAdvisor hotel pricing data 1.
The research showed that the best times to book and save vary depending on the region or city where the traveller is looking to visit for summer and that for most destinations, the hotel rates change gradually over time, without dramatic increases or decreases in price.
For example, the least expensive time to book hotels across Asia is within three months of a summer trip when travellers can save 15% compared to peak pricing. For those looking to venture to the United States this July and August, the best time to book is also within three months of travel when a 9% saving is on offer. For European destinations, optimal time to book for a 16% saving seems to be 6 or 7 months ahead of the trip. However, travellers can still catch good deals with the likes of Paris, where the best time to book for a summer trip is within only 2 months of the trip, to enjoy savings of up to 25%.
“With summer being the peak time for travel especially for families with children on school holidays, looking for lower accommodation costs can help reduce the overall trip budget,” said Janice Lee Fang, TripAdvisor’s Communications Director for Asia Pacific. “The TripAdvisor ‘Best Time to Book’ summer report helps travellers maximise their holidays by finding top-rated hotels at great prices over the next few months. For those looking at short-to-medium-haul destinations across Asia, or a longer trip to the U.S., now is the right time to book to get the best value.”
TripAdvisor analysed hotel pricing data to identify the time periods offering the lowest prices on hotels for summer in nine popular regions and 24 popular cities around the world for the months of June, July and August. The analysis defined “best time to book” as periods when hotel prices were consistently less than the destination average. Below is the breakdown of potential savings when booking hotels in these destinations for summer 2017 compared to the peak rates for summer months.
