Spain boasts four of the top five most popular destinations for Brits travelling abroad this summer, according to the travel and booking site, TripAdvisor.
Majorca is the number one destination for Brits, followed by Tenerife and Ibiza respectively, while Lanzarote comes in fifth place.
The TripAdvisor Summer Holiday Value report published today has revealed the ten most popular destinations for British holidaygoers this summer, based on booking interest, along with the average one-week holiday costs for hotels and meals1. The seasonal report helps travellers discover savings at popular travel destinations by highlighting the least expensive week to visit, highly-rated value hotels and popular things to do.
Greece offers best bargain
When comparing the average cost of a week’s holiday among the top ten destinations, across the whole of the summer season, Gran Canaria offers the best value overall at £747. However, when comparing specific travel dates, the Greek islands Crete and Corfu offer the least expensive weeks available to book on TripAdvisor this summer. Crete comes in at a cost of £654 for those travelling at the end of May into the first week of June and Corfu totals £665 for the same period.
New York favourite far flung destination for Brits
Outside Europe, New York is revealed to be the destination most popular among Brits this summer. While the Summer Holiday Value report shows that it’s the most expensive destination for a one week trip this summer, by being flexible with when they choose to travel, Brits can save over £150.
In fact, this is true of all of the destinations in the list, with some offering bigger savings than others. Ibiza and Albufeira offer the biggest savings – by opting to travel at the end of May, Brits will benefit from huge savings of over £300 and £200 respectively – compared to the average cost in summer.
“This report proves that it can pay to pick your week wisely when planning your trip abroad this summer, with savings of up to 20% on offer. If you are thinking about a visit to Corfu during the week of 30th May for example, you can book it on TripAdvisor for over £112 less than the average week’s cost over the rest of the summer,” advised Hayley Coleman, TripAdvisor spokesperson.
