A TripAdvisor report published today has revealed the twenty most popular summer destinations* for British holidaygoers this year, with Albufeira in the Algarve the most popular European destination for Brits travelling abroad.

The Summer Holiday Value Report by TripAdvisor^®, the world’s largest travel site, identifies the top 20 destinations for UK travellers this summer season**, along with the average weekly cost*** of travel to each. The report also highlights the least expensive weeks to visit each destination this season based on price data on TripAdvisor, and reveals the huge potential savings that can be made by doing so.

New York is revealed to be the international destination most popular among Brits this summer, while Sorrento in Italy, Paphos in Greece and Dubrovnik in Croatia also feature in the top twenty.

Value breaks in Spain still a big hit with Brits abroad

Spain boasts five destinations in the top twenty – with value for money likely to be one of the factors enticing British tourists to the country.

When comparing the average cost of a week’s holiday among the top twenty, across the whole of the summer season, Benidorm is the least expensive destination overall.

When comparing specific travel dates, the Costa Blanca resort, also offers the least expensive week available to book on TripAdvisor this summer at a cost of £896 for those travelling in the first week of June.

The report calculated average weekly costs based on a seven night hotel stay, three restaurant meals per day, and a roundtrip airfare from a domestic UK airport.

Flexible travellers to gain from huge savings

The report reveals big savings available to those UK travellers who are able to be flexible about the weeks they choose to holiday this summer.

For example, UK holidaygoers booking a trip to Paphos on TripAdvisor can save a huge £433 by opting for the week commencing 22 June, compared to the average week’s cost during the rest of the summer. 

“The cost of travel to the most popular destinations this summer can vary hugely depending on when you go, so pick your week wisely. For example, trips to New York the week of 17^th August can be booked on TripAdvisor for around £2,346 – that’s £303 less than the average week’s cost over the rest of summer,” advised James Kay, TripAdvisor spokesperson.

London a top travel spot for Europeans this summer

The Summer Holiday Value report also reveals that London is among the top three most popular destinations for European travellers this summer - cementing its reputation as one of the top city destinations in the world.

London is the most popular 2015 summer destination for Italian holidaygoers, the second most popular for Germans, and the third most popular for Spanish and French travellers.
