TripAdvisor Announces World’s Top Landmarks and Parks in Travellers’ Choice Attractions Awards

Australian War Memorial named #1 landmark in Australia and the South Pacific Kings Park and Botanic Garden named #6 in the World, #1 in Australia and the South Pacific

SYDNEY, June 17, 2014 – TripAdvisor^®, the world’s largest travel site*, today announced the winners of its Travellers’ Choice^TM awards for Attractions, highlighting the top landmarks and parks around the globe. In the second year of the awards for these categories, 929 winners were identified, including the top 25 in the world and dedicated lists for Asia, Australia, Canada, China, Europe, India, Mexico, South America, the South Pacific, the U.K. and the U.S.

“TripAdvisor travellers have helped identify some of the best attractions around the globe,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor. “These award-winning landmarks and parks are an ideal starting point for taking in the world’s must-see sights.”

Travellers’ Choice Attraction awards honour top travel spots worldwide based on the millions of valuable reviews and opinions from TripAdvisor travellers. Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews for landmark and park attractions worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period.

Australia has delivered a standout performance with a number of the nation’s most loved tourist attractions with entry into world, national and regional lists. From the Sydney Harbour Bridge to Port Arthur Historic Site, landmarks across Australia have dominated the South Pacific category, taking out 18 of the top 25 spots. In the Parks category, Australia claimed 16 out of 25 spots including Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens and Brisbane’s South Bank Parklands.

Canberra’s Australian War Memorial takes out top spot in Australia and the South Pacific

The Australian War Memorial, the awe-inspiring site lying in the heart of the nation’s capital, Canberra, was the stand-out performer, ranked #1 landmark in Australia and the South Pacific Region as well as #17 on the list of top global landmarks.

Australian War Memorial Marketing Manager, Kate Still said, “We are honoured to receive the Travellers’ Choice Attraction award from TripAdvisor. Perth’s Kings Park and Botanic Gardens ranked amongst best parks in the world

Kings Park and Botanic Gardens, perched on the cusp of inner-city Perth, was also recognised for its beauty and unique combination of bush and parkland. Ranked #6 on the list of the world’s top parks, it came in as the top park in both Australia and the South Pacific region.
