4 November 2013 - TripAdvisor, featuring more than 400,000 holiday rental properties around the world, reveals that travellers – especially families going away for a week or more – can save up to 64 percent by choosing a holiday rental rather a hotel this winter. In a study comparing hotel and holiday rental costs in popular destinations, Llandudno’s rental properties were revealed to offer the greatest savings off hotel rates in the UK list (a saving of 64%), followed by Windermere and Falmouth where holiday rentals both come in at 63% cheaper. In the international list, Spain’s Marbella, Benalmadena and Playa de las Americas led the charge with respective savings of 69%, 59% and 59%. “Particularly for families and groups taking a longer holiday, holiday rentals can be a great option,” commented Laurel Greatrix, TripAdvisor spokesperson. “They’re not just economical, but oftentimes they’re also more spacious and come with extra amenities, like fireplaces, living rooms, and full-sized kitchens. The study looks at the average cost of accommodation for a week’s stay in a two-bedroom holiday rental listed on TripAdvisor, as well as a week’s stay in two rooms in a three-star hotel, in destinations popular with Brits for the coming months.* Prices from more than 4,000 hotels and more than 10,000 holiday rentals are included in the calculations below.
